Our Dreams

The concept and idea of "dreams" has been getting very popular nowadays with movies like Inception and psychological brain teasers like Requiem For A Dream.  Dreams have always interested me, and I pursued to broaden my knowledge on it by watching NOVA's "What Are Dreams?", by starting to read Freud's "The Interpretation of Dreams", and by contrasting other culture's ideas on dreams to what mine are.
Fascinating
In history, people who have created things like Henry Ford claim that the finalizations on their creations came to them in a dream.  Many other cultures claim that gods bring "visions" to them about something in the future and there are cases where people do dream things and they actually happen.  The idea of living in a false world, like in the Matrix, triggers many philosophical branches that always keep us wondering, what if?  Dreams have always captured our imagination and kept us questioning exactly what they are.  Why do we dream?  What are the benefits to it?

I'll keep everyone posted on what I learn as I progress, but for now let me hear what you guys think of dreams and why we have them.  I recommend keeping a dream journal, where you record what you remember in your dreams, as I have for the past three months.  It is truly astonishing as to what your mind is really trying to tell you.  Happy dreaming!

  1. I still think dreams are just random neurons firing and being interpreted.

Either that or I'm suicidal because I jump off a lot of buildings in my dreams.
